Lancashire ACO
We are the Lancashire Branch of ECB ACO. We aim to keep you updated on this website with news items, development programs, other sites, contacts and anything else that may be useful to you.
The LACO has been organising the training and development of umpiring and scoring in Lancashire since the formation of the ECB Officials Association in 2006 and subsequently the ECB ACO in 2008. The aim of the ECB ACO is to develop competent umpires and scorers to control and guide cricket matches at every level from playground to test arena.
The LACO has a President who is elected to office for a 3 year period. The current President is Tommy Wilson ex-First Class Umpire. There is an organising Committee including Chair, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Performance Officer, Scorers Officer, Education Officer, Appointments Officer and a Membership Officer along with a number of ordinary members as determined by its constitution. Members of the Committee are subject to election on a rolling 3 year basis at an AGM usually held in March each year.
The Chair of the LACO sits on the Northern Regional Committee of the ECB ACO.
The LACO is also represented on the Recreation and Development Sub-Committees of the LCF.
The LACO co-operates with and oversees the work of a number of local league/area ACO organisations. These will, in particular, operate a system of ‘umpire markings’ and organise Observation and Mentoring processes. Overall co-ordination of the training, accreditation and mentoring programme is conducted at county level to ensure uniform standards apply.
As per its Constitution, the Aim of the LACO is: –
“To promote the training, development and interests of Umpires and Scorers in Lancashire in accordance with the policy and guidelines of the ECB ACO”
The constitution also identifies the following four key objectives:
• Delivery of training, assessment and support for the personal development of umpires and scorers who are members of ECB ACO
• Increase membership of ECB ACO within Lancashire through training, information and regular communication
• Represent the views of Umpires and Scorers in Lancashire to the LCF or the ECB ACO Board; and
• Promote the status and standards of umpiring and scoring within Lancashire
